Natural Cure for Sinus Blockage

Inhaled allergens, as well as cold weather often cause sinus blockage. Sinus blockage can be very uncomfortable. It can interfere with eating and sleeping. It can also lead to a sinus infection if untreated. But there are many ways to cure a blocked sinus the natural way.

Eucalyptus or Menthol Oil

Eucalyptus and menthol oil aid the decongestion of the sinus and the nasal passages. Both are also natural antiseptics and anesthetics. Eucalyptus and menthol, which is derived from peppermint plants, are often in nasal inhalers. These inhalers drain mucus from the nasal passages and relieve sinus blockage. Eucalyptus and menthol are also common ingredients in cold rubs, which can be applied to the skin.
Try putting a few drops of menthol oil into a bowl of boiling water. Three drops of oil should be enough. Bend over the bowl to inhale the oil-infused steam. Cover the area above your head with a towel or a cloth. Continue inhaling the steam slowly for 10 minutes. A few drops of the oil may also be applied to a handkerchief and sniffed throughout the day.

Clean Air

Clean air is a natural way to prevent and relieve a blocked sinus. Outdoor pollution and allergens often cause blockage. To avoid this, stay indoors as much as possible. If you must go outside, wear a mask to avoid inhaling polluted air.
When indoors, keep an air purifier running. It is also advisable to keep all surfaces inside the house dust-free. Change beddings regularly.

Humidity

A blocked sinus is usually experienced during the cold months of the year or early in the morning, when the air is still cold. During cold weather, a home's heating system is running, and all the doors and windows are closed. This makes the air very dry. Dry air causes a blocked sinus, which the cold outside aggravates.
To avoid having blocked sinuses during cold weather, the humidity of the air inside the house must be increased. Small, free-standing air humidifiers are sold in most appliance and hardware stores. You can also use a large-scale whole-house humidifier. If an air humidifier is not immediately available, sit in the bathroom with the hot shower running for about 20 minutes. The steam will increase humidity in the air and relieve the blockage.
