Home Remedy to Reduce Nasal Polyps

Nasal polyps are growths that occur inside the nasal cavities and are often sore and uncomfortable. Polyps are generally described as grape-like in shape and tend to have the consistency of jelly. While it is not certain what causes nasal polyps, they are often linked to allergies and often aggravate existing allergic reactions. Common treatments for polyps include injections and surgery, but there are a number of natural remedies that have been shown to reduce or even eliminate these irritating growths.

Nasal Rinse

A nasal rinse, generally a saline or saltwater solution, can help remove allergens and irritants that can contribute to nasal polyps. Saline nasal sprays are available at most drug stores, but a saltwater solution can be easily mixed at home. Mix one teaspoon of salt with one cup of warm water and stir until the salt is dissolved. This spray can be applied with a bulb syringe or empty nasal spray bottle. Spray the solution up the nose and breathe in lightly to be sure the saltwater travels all the way up the nasal cavity. Repeat this on each nostril a few times each day for the best results.

Horseradish & Honey

Horseradish is a very strong herb known to clear out nasal passageways in a rather effective manner. Because of its strong flavor, however, many people do not like to eat it plain. Mixed with honey, horseradish is a little easier to consume. To help eliminate nasal polyps, mix 200 grams (about 2 cups) of grated horseradish with two cups of natural honey. Take one teaspoon of this mixture by mouth each morning and each night until it is completely gone. At that time, nasal polyps should be eliminated.

Citrus Fruits

Citrus fruits, such as oranges, grapefruits and lemons, can help reduce nasal polyps. Vitamin C found in these fruits helps boost the immune system so polyps and other bodily problems can be more readily fended off. Also, these fruits contain substances known as bioflavonoids, which are important for the health of nasal tissue and blood vessels, helping to normalize conditions inside the nose. Eating just one or two citrus fruits per day can have a big impact on nasal polyp reduction.
