However they also go on to say, "These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Consult your healthcare professionals before taking any dietary supplements."

    The manufacturer's suggested use of Betaine hydrochloride recommends that adults take one tablet at the beginning of each meal. However, your health care professional may recommend a different dosage depending on your age, health and pre-existing conditions. One t400mg tablet of Betaine hydrochloride contains the equivalent of 95mg hydrochloric acid.

    Only take Betaine hydrochloride tablets from a bottle that has a secure seal under the cap. Bottles without this type of seal may be stale or unsafe for consumption. Women who are or may be pregnant should consult with their doctor before starting a daily regimen.

    Do not take Betaine hydrochloride tablets if you have a duodenal or gastric ulcer, or have an allergy to one of the ingredients. As stated in the ingredient fact sheet, the 400mg Betaine HCL tablets from PhysioLogics contain: "Cellulose (Plant Origin), Dicalcium Phosphate, Croscarmellose, Silica, Vegetable Magnesium Stearate, Cellulose Coating." This product does not contain and is safe for people with sensitivities to: "yeast, wheat, milk or milk derivatives, lactose, sugar, preservatives, soy, artificial color and artificial flavor." There is less than 5mg of sodium per serving.

    You can take Betaine hydrochloride tablets that are marketed under a different name. Rxlist.com specifies that the following are other names Betaine hydrochloride is known by: "Betaine, Betaine HCl, Betaine Hydrochloric Acid, Trimethylglycine, Trimethylglycine hydrochloride, TMG (trimethylglycine)", oxyneurine and glycine betaine.

    Capsules and tablets are the way to take Betaine hydrochloride. Dosages of 400, 500 and 600mg are common. Currently there is no liquid form of Betaine hydrochloride available for those who cannot tolerate pills. To ingest in a liquid form, open the capsule and completely dissolve it in water, milk or juice. Do not store the Betaine hydrochloride solution, take it immediately and discard any that is not consumed. As recommended by Florahealth.com, "it should not be used if the powder does not dissolve completely or gives a colored solution."
