Rose Hips for a Urinary Infection

Urinary tract infection (UTI) is a frustrating condition that affects mostly women. Foods high in Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) such as rose hips have been shown to help cure UTIs.

What is a Urinary Infection?

A urinary infection is a bacterial attack of the urinary tract. It is frequently caused by E.Coli, and produces uncomfortable symptoms such as increased urinary frequency and a burning sensation during urination.

What Are Rose Hips?

Rose hips are the small berry-like fruit of the rose plant. They have a high concentration of Vitamin C and can be used for a range of home remedies.

How Do They work?

When ingested, the high amounts of Vitamin C change the pH balance of your urine, making it more acidic. This makes it more difficult for the bacteria to flourish in the urinary tract.

Administration

Fresh rose hips are similar to cranberries and can be consumed as a snack or used in recipes. Drinking tea made from dried rose hips is also a quick and simple way to get a dose into your system.

Warnings

Rose water, a diluted solution similar to rose hip tea, can be used as a topical treatment to relieve external itching and burning, however medical professionals advise against this.
