Home Treatments for Excessive Underarm Sweating

Hyperhidrosis is excessive sweating under the arms and in various areas of the body. This condition can cause embarrassment and social problems for those who suffer from it. Home remedies may be able to help treat the condition and get underarm sweating under control. Have an examination by your doctor to make sure that excessive sweating is not caused by an underlying condition.

Antiperspirants and Natural Treatments

Antiperspirants work by controlling the amount of sweat that is emitted from the sweat glands through the skin. Use a strong antiperspirant product in addition to a deodorant. Deodorants do not control sweating, only odor associated with underarm sweating.
Mix a teaspoon of cider vinegar and a teaspoon of honey together and drink to decrease the amount of sweat. Make sure that you are drinking plenty of water every day. Drinking at least eight glasses of water a day will help to keep the body temperature at normal levels and may decrease excessive sweating.
Apply tea tree oil directly to the underarm area to eliminate excessive sweating. Use care with this herbal remedy because it could cause a rash when you apply it to the skin.
Use a tincture of burdock to encourage the body to eliminate fluids in other ways. Use sage directly on the skin as an antiperspirant. Sage comes in a variety of forms such as oil, tea and tincture. Use any of these variations for your excessive sweating.

Natural Fiber Clothing

The clothes that you wear can have an impact on the amount of sweat that you produce. Choose breathable fabrics like cotton and you will not trap excess heat. Stay away from man-made fibers like polyester. One exception to the rule on man-made fabrics is in athletic wear. Some of these items have been designed to keep perspiration in check.
Change your clothes frequently if you can. Hyperhidrosis sufferers can bring along an extra shirt to change into on the days when it is essential to look great.

Relaxation and Stress Relief

Some people who suffer from excessive sweating also have a lot of stress in their life. Reducing your stress levels and learning how to relax may help to reduce excessive sweating. Take some time each day for yourself and meditate or just sit in quiet contemplation. You may never be able to completely eliminate stress from your life, but you can take steps to reduce it. Exercise or find something that you enjoy participating in.
