Purpose of Sweet Oil

A sweet oil is defined as any liquid edible oil derived from a plant. However, it most commonly consists of olive oil. It is used frequently as an ingredient in home remedies.

Sunburn

Sweet oil can have a soothing effect on sunburned skin and lips. Cool some oil in the refrigerator and apply to the burned areas liberally to relieve stinging and burning.

Ear Infection

To alleviate an ear infection, heat the oil first. Using a dropper, administer three to five drops into the ear and cover with a cotton ball. The heated oil helps the ear canals relax and drain naturally.

Skin Moisturizer

Sweet oil is an emollient that can help moisturize your skin. Apply to the skin after showering to help your body retain it's natural moisture.

Hair Treatment

If your hair is dry or sun-damaged, sweet oil can be used as a substitute for commercial hair treatments. Comb some warm oil through the hair and wrap your hair in a towel for half an hour, then shower and style your hair as normal.

Cooking

Sweet oil is a processed, low-grade olive oil that is not designed for cooking. It lacks the rich flavor of good quality virgin olive oil.
