PectaSol Chelation Complex is the trademarked name of a chelating agent created by EcoNugenics. Chelation is the process of removing heavy metals from the bloodstream, by introducing agents which bind to those metals and pull them out of the body via the urinary tract.
Function
The function of Chelation Complex is to rid the body of excess heavy metals. Some of these metals include mercury, aluminum, lead, and even cadmium. These pollutants can be found throughout a person's environment, ranging in sources from industrial chemicals, foods, and even drinking water.
Types
While many chelating agents use EDTA (ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid), a synthetic amino acid known for its ability to bind to metals and pull them out of the bloodstream, there are also naturally derived chelating agents. PectaSol Chelation Complex uses Modified Citrus Pectin (MCP), along with a seaweed derivative known as alginate. These natural compounds are purported to work with the body's own natural detoxification process.
Warning
Waters Preventive Medical Center indicates that one long-term side effect of chelation can be anemia. Because of this, it is logical to conclude that those who are already anemic should not undergo chelation. Iron, a key element in preventing anemia, is one of the metals that can be removed via chelation.
