Persistent Dry Cough & Sneezing Remedies

The preponderance of allergies and varied weather patterns creates a climate ripe with problems for those prone to persistent cough and sneezing issues. Holistic remedies calm these issues as they have for ages. By utilizing homemade elixirs, one can seek relief for complications associated with these symptoms.

Onion Cough Syrup

Onions are very valuable for those suffering from persistent coughs and colds. Slice a small onion and mix together with one teaspoon of honey in a glass jar. Cover and allow it to sit for four or five hours. The result will be a thick cough syrup that coats the throat and eases any pain from persistent coughing. Take one tablespoon two to three times a day until the cough goes away. Take a tablespoon of pure honey before going to bed at night to help ease sore throat pain for a restful night's sleep.

Chamomile

Chamomile has long been valued for it's calming properties in holistic medicine, but it has value for those suffering from constant sneezing as well. Utilize chamomile in one of two different ways for this ailment. Boil the chamomile and then put a towel over your head and breath in the vapors. This will help to open the nasal passages and reduce inflammation in the lining of the nose. Brew a strong cup of chamomile tea and benefit from its natural antihistamine properties. Drink a cup two to three times a day for maximum healing effect. Sweeten with honey for a natural sweetener and as a way to relieve a sore throat.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar, with its wide range of uses, has become a dependable product to have around the house. For persistent coughs, put one or two teaspoons of vinegar in a glass of water. Keep it beside your bed to use when you feel a cough coming on. Stir with a spoon, and take a drink as needed. Vinegar dissolves mucus and reduces inflammation. Mix half a cup of honey with three to four tablespoons of vinegar. Honey has antibacterial properties that help to speed up the recovery process. Consume one tablespoon of the mixture before going to bed. Supplement your regular routine with this mixture during the day as well.

Fennel Seeds

Make a tea from fennel seeds to relieve sneezing attacks. Boil two tablespoons of fennel seeds in one cup of water. Simmer until the water has been reduced to half the original quantity. Filter the tea to remove the remaining seeds. Take one tablespoon every morning and evening for a few days. Line the nose with a dab of petroleum jelly to ease any irritation from sneezing.
