Emu Oil Substitutes

Emu Oil Substitutes

Emu oil is extremely emollient, is easily absorbed and is gentle enough for sensitive skin types. But if you are uncomfortable with the idea of applying an animal oil to your skin and would prefer an effective substitute there are numerous varieties from which to choose.

Rose Hip Oil

Rose hip oil is extracted from rose hips and also is very emollient, making it ideal for dry or aging skin. It can be purchased from a soap-making supply shop or online merchant. You can add rose hip oil to lotions, eye cream and toners to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in a cost-effective, natural way.

Jojoba Oil

Jojoba oil is extracted from the jojoba plant and is easily absorbed into skin. You can combine it with other oils to treat skin conditions. For example, a blend of tea tree oil and jojoba oil can help treat acne and rosacea breakouts. Jojoba oil can be purchased at any health food store and used on its own as a natural, light skin moisturizer.

Sweet Almond Oil

Sweet almond oil is extracted from the nut of the same name and is especially soothing on irritated, sensitive skin. It can be added to handmade lotions and creams instead of emu oil to create an effective moisturizer for sensitive skin. Sweet almond oil is typically available at natural food stores and bath and body shops.
