Natural Way to Lighten Dark Pigmentation

Natural Way to Lighten Dark Pigmentation

For many, keeping skin light is akin to staying beautiful. Numerous skin care and beauty products for skin whitening use harsh bleaches and chemicals. Luckily, whether you're looking to change your natural complexion or to reverse unwanted age spots, there are simple, safe and natural ways to go about it.

Exfoliating

    Loofahs help with exfoliation

One of the most effective natural treatments is one of the simplest. Scrubbing skin to remove excess dead cells also has the effect of naturally lightening it. Regular buffing and exfoliation maintains smoother, lighter skin.

A loofah or some form of natural scrubbing device can help as can numerous beauty products designed to exfoliate-- including ones that use mild natural acids.

But for a completely natural, homemade exfoliation, mix 2 tablespoons oatmeal, 2 tablespoons brown sugar and 1/4 cup milk until it becomes a paste. Apply to skin, scrub rigorously, and rinse.

Home Treatments

Homemade facial masks can lighten skin

There are a few natural treatments you can make at home. Try a skin-lightening facial mask. Mix in equal parts sandalwood paste, lemon juice, tomato juice and cucumber juice to form a paste. Apply the mixture to face and any other skin desired. Wear the mixture until it dries, then rinse.

Another option is to apply licorice extract. Licorice contains a natural skin-whitening agent called glabridin. Most natural food and supplement stores will have licorice extract, and it may also be ordered online. Be sure to test for allergic reactions before applying to your face and larger areas of skin. Usually a small amount on the back of your hand is a good choice.

Natural Products

Nut grass root yields skin-whitening extracts

Some natural solutions can be bought ready to use. Nut grass root extract naturally reduces the production of melanin. Melanin is the chemical in our bodies which causes pigmentation. Thus, this extract can help to lighten skin--some suggest by as much as 40 percent. Look for products containing nut grass root. The most notable of these is called Extrapone, which along with nut grass root contains several other natural extracts aimed at healthy skin treatment.

Keratin, in significant enough concentration, may also have a lightening effect on the skin. This natural compound which encourages skin to produce collagen and elastin is found in many common hand and body lotions. One New Zealand-made product, Cynergy TK, claims to use very high concentrations of keratin along with other natural ingredients specifically to create a skin-lightening effect. This product is not widely distributed in the United States and usually requires a specialty beauty or skin product shop to locate it.
