How to Use Essential Oils for a Sinus Infection

How to Use Essential Oils for a Sinus Infection

Essential oils are commonly used in treating a variety of health conditions. Using essential oils as a form of alternative medicine has proven to be successful in treating sinus infections and general sinus conditions from which you may suffer. Many essential oils also can provide the antiseptic and stimulating properties necessary to clear your sinus passages and have you breathing easy in no time.

Instructions

    1

Choose an essential oil that works well for sinus troubles. Such oils include eucalyptus oil, peppermint oil, tea tree oil, rosemary oil and lavender oil.

    2

Fill a large pot with water and bring to a boil. Remove the pot from the stove and add a few drops of your chosen essential oil. Lean over the pot of steaming water and breath in the aromatic fumes that are being released.

    3

Reheat the water on the stove if necessary to repeat the process.

    4

Add a few drops of the essential oil to a carrier oil or body lotion. Eucalyptus and rosemary work best for clearing away congestion while tea tree and peppermint oil will provide antiseptic properties for the sinus infection.

    5

Rub the oil or lotion into your skin around your temples, chest and sinus areas to promote clearing and healing.
