Medical Home Remedies for Congestion

We have all suffered from a stuffed-up nose, be it from a bad cold, allergies, or inhaled irritants. We feel miserable, like our head is exploding, and all we want is immediate relief. We feel exhausted, so we do not want to go anywhere. You will be glad to know that there are several remedies you can use to stop your congestion and get you feeling normal again.

Steam

Steam helps loosen congestion. Attempt this by taking a really hot shower, or by preparing a pot of steamy hot water, and getting your face as close to it as possible. Breathe in the steam.

Vitamin C

When your histamine levels are high, supplement your daily regimen with 1000 mg. of vitamin C three times a day. Vitamin C will lower your histamine levels.

Echinacea

Echinacea is an herb, often called the "natural antibiotic," because it naturally improves our immune system, and teaches our body how to ward off harmful organisms. Echinacea should be taken as soon as symptoms occur, such as if your nose becomes stuffed up or your throat becomes sore and hoarse. Drinking three cups of echinacea tea a day will help you heal faster.

Saline Nasal Spray

You can use an over-the-counter nasal spray, or you can prepare one at home out of lukewarm water, a pinch of salt, and a pinch of baking soda. Use a syringe, spritz a few times, and try to remove the irritants that may be causing your nose to be so stuffed and uncomfortable.

Hot Spice

If you can handle hot pepper, and it does not upset your stomach, add some hot pepper or chili seasoning to your next meal. This will open up your sinuses and help you breathe better, and you may be able to enjoy your tasty, spicy meal.
