Herbal Remedies for Sinus Congestion

You can fight off a stuffy nose using herbal remedies for sinus congestion. The cost is minimal and using an herbal remedy is generally considered safe for adults and children over the age of 12. If the congestion in your sinuses is causing serious pain, contact your physician as soon as possible.

Bayberry Root

    Bayberry Root is considered a natural decongestant. It is suggested that adults take 2 capsules, two to three times each day. Bayberry Root is not suggested for use in children.

Bitter Orange

    Using a cotton swab, gently rub bitter orange oil on the inside of your nostrils to provide relief of irritation from sinus congestion.

Ginger Root

    Crush a small piece of ginger root and wrap it in a thin cloth. Hold this poultice onto your forehead for several minutes to promote sinus drainage.

Nettle

    Nettle is especially beneficial for sinus and allergy problems. It can be purchased a variety of forms, such as tea, nasal spray and supplements.

Anise

    Anise helps to loosen mucous and get rid of congestion. Place several drops of anise essential oil into a large pot and boil until steaming. Lean your head over the pot and breathe the steam into your sinuses.

Mullein

    Mullein helps soothe the inflammation and irritation caused by sinus congestion. Take as directed on the packaging.

Garlic

    Garlic is a natural antibiotic that boosts your immune system and helps fight off infection. Take 2 capsules up to three times daily.
