Home Remedies for Pneumonia

Using home remedies for pneumonia symptoms can help. However, if your symptoms worsen, it is imperative that you contact your physician. Most of the home remedies listed below are safe for use in adults and children over the age of 12. For children under the age of 12, please contact a qualified caregiver before giving any home remedies.

Fresh Juices

Drink several glasses of fresh fruit juice a day. The fresh liquid helps to thin mucous and lung secretions.

Cool Air

Use humidifier or vaporizer with cool mist to help ease breathing.

Heat

Use a heating pad on your chest when you have pneumonia. It will help ease the pain.

Chlorophyll

Take chlorophyll supplements when you have pneumonia to help build up your immune system.

Licorice Root

Drink licorice root tea or eat licorice lozenges once or twice a day. Do not use licorice root for more than 7 days in a row. Do not take licorice root if you have high blood pressure and do not give it to children.

Garlic

Garlic is a natural antibiotic and helps to fight respiratory infections. Take a garlic supplement as directed on the package or eat raw garlic with your meals.

Avoid Dairy

Do not eat or drink anything containing dairy, as these can cause excess mucous build up.
