Flaxseed has a high content of alpha linolenic acids (ALA), which is an omega-3 fatty acid, like those found in fish. Omega-3 fatty acids are essential to the body, and since your body can't make them, they must be eaten from a variety of sources. They are essential for brain function such as memory, behavioral functions and brain performance.

Diabetes

    In a study at the University of Toronto, participants who ate flaxseed bread actually had blood sugar levels that were 28 percent lower than those who ate wheat bread. Although it can't cure diabetes, flaxseed may help keep lower blood sugar levels than eating regular bread if eaten regularly.

Cancer Prevention

    Flaxseed contains a phytoestrogen known as lignans, which could have preventative properties against cancer. Flaxseed also contains ALA, which also has potential as a cancer fighting substance. Also, the high fiber is helpful in preventing colon cancer. Eating flaxseed bread could be beneficial for cancer prevention.

Constipation

    Flaxseed is high in fiber and can promote regular bowel function. If taken with water, it can help soften stools if you are suffering from constipation, as it absorbs the water. One ounce of flaxseed bread offers up to 32 percent of your recommended daily intake of fiber.

Arthritis

    A study reported in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition showed that people who took flaxseed had 30 percent less inflammation than those who did not. This could be directly helpful to those suffering from inflammatory arthritis.
