How to Use Probiotics to Improve Colon Function

The colon is a major organ that needs as much attention as the rest of our body. The colon is the organ that processes waste, and if that waste isn't being moved out of our bodies, it can create many health problems. If you are not having at least one bowel movement every day, then your colon is not working at its full potential.
A healthy digestive system contains flora. These are good bacteria that the body uses to break down and process the foods we eat. When these are absent in our digestive systems (as they are after having taken a round of antibiotics), the colon fails to work properly and the waste in our bodies isn't eliminated as it should be.
There are several ways to make sure that we have enough flora in our digestive systems. These include introducing good bacteria through natural sources, such as yogurt and kefir, as well as taking probiotic supplements.

Instructions

    1

Eat 8 oz. of yogurt daily. This should be natural yogurt, preferably from organic sources that has been cultured through natural processes. It will take about 2 weeks for your body to achieve the proper balance through this source.

    2

Add 4 oz. of organic, naturally cultured kefir to your daily diet. You can do this by adding it to a fruit smoothie in the morning, or buying kefir with natural fruits added to it. It's best to use kefir that has no sweeteners in it, since you don't want the additional sugar. Use brands that have at least 10 different sources of enzymes (bacteria).

    3

Purchase a probiotic supplement that contains at least 5 million probiotics from at least 10 different resources, and one that needs refrigeration. If it has to be refrigerated, you know that you're getting live cultures (enzymes/bacteria) rather than ones that could be less effective (see Resources below). Keep these in your refrigerator and take the recommended dosage every day. You should notice a difference in your elimination with a couple of days.
