A lot of people have memory problems, not just senior citizens. There are many things that can affect a person's memory. These factors include, age, illness, alcohol, insufficient exercise, an unhealthy diet, seizures, depression, drugs and brain infections. Some memories are better left forgotten, such as a traumatic experiences, but when important things such as doctors appointments and birthdays are forgotten very easily, it's time to look at ways to help treat memory loss and see a professional for help.

    Eat pistachio nuts to help a memory problem if it is due to a thiamine deficiency. The recommended does of thiamine for men is 1.5 milligrams a day and for women 1.1 mg (is both are age 50 or younger). The recommended dose for those over 50 is a little less. Just a half-cup of pistachio nuts equals .54 milligrams of thiamine.

    Eat artichokes as you normally would or pull the artichoke apart, leaf by leaf and add the pieces to a jar with enough water to cover them. Cover the jar with a lid and place it in a pan with water. Boil this for two hours and add more water to the pan, not the jar, as needed. Strain the contents of the jar and squeeze the artichoke leaves good enough to get all of the juices out. Drink three to four tablespoons four times a day. Artichokes are a good source of food to increase your mental capacity and help treat memory loss.

    Eat blueberries every day to help treat memory loss. Blueberries are a good source of antioxidants. Antioxidants are needed to help treat memory loss and maintain healthy brain function.

    Eat carrots raw, cooked or in a casserole or in a juice form. Add some apricot juice to the carrot juice to give it a better taste. Carrots are high in carotene, which is a good source for boosting the memory.

    Eat eggs to help boost your memory. Eggs contain lecithin, which help keep the memory nerve cells healthy. Other foods that contain lecithin are sunflower and soybean oil, which can also be found in capsule form.

    Eat okra to help enhance your memory. Sweet potatoes, tapioca, spinach, fresh fruits and vegetables, almonds and milk are also good for enhancing the memory and treating memory loss.

    Choose any kind of herbal tea such as rosemary, sage, marjoram or basil. Use a 1/4 teaspoon of whichever herbal tea you choose to use in a cup of boiling water. Steep for five minutes. These herbs can be used in a bath or added to essential oils and olive oil and massaged over the neck and forehead. When adding to a bath, use five drops to a tubful. Using herbal teas this way can help improve memory problems.
