How to Use Hydrogen Peroxide in and Around the House

Hydrogen peroxide is an effective stand-in for bleach. It can clean and sanitize with no noticeable aroma to disturb your olfactory senses. The hydrogen peroxide that is sold in grocery stores is generally in a relatively safe to use 1 percent solution.

Instructions

    1

Hydrogen peroxide can be a replacement for bleach in the laundry room. Simply replace your 1 cup of bleach with 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide. It whitens and brightens your clothes with less damage to the fibers.

    2

Use diluted hydrogen peroxide as a mouthwash to help with sore throats and other irritations from dental work or mouth sores due to chemo and such. Dulute about one part of hydrogen peroxide from a 1 percent solution in three parts water. Simply swish and spit as you would any mouthwash. Bonus: this will also help to whiten your teeth. Don't swallow it, though.

    3

Have a stained sink or tub? Mix some hydrogen peroxide with some cream of tartar into a paste and gently rub it into the affected area. Let it sit for a few minutes and rinse it away. The mixture will remove rust and other staining on surfaces.

    4

Use hydrogen peroxide to clean and sanitize your bathroom. Simply pour some onto a clean cloth and wipe down the counters, sinks, shower stall or tub area. Wipe around the toilet and you can even scrub the inside of the toilet with hydrogen peroxide.

    5

Mix hydrogen peroxide with cream of tartar or any non gel toothpaste to brighten your teeth when brushing. Rinse your mouth well and your teeth will look like you just had them cleaned professionally.

    6

Use it as a stain remover on carpeting or clothing for grass stains, wine, red or dark juices, etc. Simply pour some hydrogen peroxide on a clean cloth and gently blot or scrub the area. Repeat as necessary.

    7

Wipe down your cutting boards and other kitchen surfaces with hydrogen peroxide solution to kill bacteria.

    8

Use hydrogen peroxide to clean out waxy buildup in ears. Gently pour some in your ear with your head tilted to one side. When the foaming stops, gently tilt your head and let the fluid and waxy buildup flow out.
