A Home Remedy for Gynecomastia

A Home Remedy for Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia, more commonly known as man boobs, is a condition in which a male begins to develop breast tissue like a female. As in prepubescent girls, the first indication of gynecomastia is a lump located under the areola, or dark area of the breast. While this is usually not life threatening, it can be an embarrassing condition. There are several possible causes of gynecomastia, including hormone imbalance, liver dysfunction, and reaction to some prostate remedies.

Herbal Remedies

If your gynecomastia is due to a hormonal imbalance you can try to correct this imbalance with herbal and natural remedies. One of the most common types of hormone imbalance is estrogen dominance, according to Dr. John Lees site. This imbalance can occur in males and females, and one of the symptoms in males is enlarged breasts. Check with your health care provider for bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, whether it be with testosterone or progesterone supplementation.

Or you can use an over the counter progesterone cream to see if it will help. Progesterone cream is derived from soy, and it metabolizes in the body just like your own progesterone, helping to keep your steroid hormones level. Rub teaspoon of the cream into a soft skin part of your body daily. Alternate dosage locations to avoid contact sensitivity: inner arms, inner thighs, abdomen and chest.

To improve your liver function, drink milk thistle tea or take it as a supplement. The active constituent of milk thistle is silymarin. Scientists are beginning to study its effects on liver disease because it has been used for centuries. According to a study published by R Saller, et al, from the University Hospital in Zurich, Switzerland, silymarin has been found to be effective in the treatment of chronic liver disease and alcoholic liver. If your breast enlargement is due to liver disease, this may eventually help, but it is not a quick fix.

Exercise

Weight lifting is a good way to lower your overall fat ratio, which can reduce the appearance of man boobs. Include lots of vegetables and fruit in your diet, and be sure to drink enough clean water, so that your cells can operate at peak efficiency when you start working out. One exercise to include is the incline bench press. Lean back at a 45-degree angle and lift a barbell straight up ten times slowly. Rest and repeat this two or three more times. Use weight that is heavy enough to make your last few repetitions difficult, but not impossible. According to Tom J. Pousti, board certified plastic surgeon, as you work your pectoral muscles, your body will take nourishment from the source closest to the working muscle. So you will burn fat from your chest, besides making the area firmer, higher and stronger.
