The Benefits of Honeybush

The Benefits of Honeybush

The honeybush is native to the cape of South Africa. It is a beverage and a medicinal tea, having a mildly sweet taste somewhat like honey. The tea is also called Bushtea, Bergtee and Bossietee. The shrub grows on mountain peaks, in perennial streams, marshy areas, on shale bands and wet southern slopes. The honeybush usually grows to about 6 feet but can grow as high as 12 feet.

No Side Effects

One of the positive aspects of honeybush is that it has no recorded side effects. Because of this, you can drink it freely in its tea form and do not have to worry about the side effects of tea, such as large amounts of caffeine. It also has very low tannin levels. Almost every plant contains tannin. Tannins are polyphenols obtained from various parts of different plants. Tannin-rich food consumption is linked to certain cancers, such as esophageal cancer. Tannin also has a low nutritional value. Honeybush tea is free of all the complications associated with tannin.

Health Effects

Honeybush tea can treat a variety of illness symptoms, including coughing. Honeybush tea contains pinitol, which is a modified sugar. Pintinol helps lower blood sugar and blood lipids. It is being considered as a drug for diabetes. Honeybush also helps soothe menstrual side effects. It helps to prevent breast, prostate and uterine cancers. It reduces the occurrence of osteoporosis. It has anti-fungal and anti-virus benefits. It eases constipation, helps stop hunger pangs, aids in dieting and is rich in iron, potassium, calcium, copper, zinc, magnesium, manganese and sodium.

Soothing effects

Honeybush has no caffeine so it does not cause abnormal excitation or stress on your body. It also has soothing effects on the central nervous system. The tea can be taken before bedtime to calm nerves and induce sleep. It can also help if you suffer from anxiety or panic disorder. You can drink the tea when you are feeling nervous or overly excited and it should bring on a positive, calming effect.
