Chrysin Benefits

Interest in the benefits of chrysin flavonoids is increasing. They offer plants protection from fungus and effects of radiation, and play a key role in a plant's sex determination, growth hormones and growth regulators. Consequently, scientists study chrysin in the pursuit of finding cures for human health problems. (See Reference 3, opening paragraphs of pg. 2)

Raises Testosterone Levels

Chrysin increases testosterone levels in laboratory mice testes. Unfortunately, studies supporting the use of chrysin for raising human testosterone levels do not exist. (See Reference 2) However, clinical proof of chrysin's potential benefit to aging males may someday emerge. (See Reference 1, Abstract/Discussion)

Prevents Virus Activation

Out of 34 natural and synthetic flavonoids, chrysin's rank the highest in a therapeutic index. Two of them inhibit HIV-1 virus replication, according to a 2005 study titled, "Antimicrobial Activity of Flavonoids." Chrysin flavonoids also inhibit the growth of the human coronavirus. (See Reference 3, bottom of pg. 5, top of pg. 6)

Inhibits Cancer Cells

Evidence of inhibiting cancer cell growth suggests the importance of continuous chysin study. Its flavonoids slow the growth of breast carcinoma and human thyroid cancer cells, according to Stephen Bortz, Ph.D, a biology professor at Wilkes University. Chysin may also inhibit the growth of prostate tumor cells. (See Reference 4, 3rd paragraph)
