Natural & Herbal Remedies for Bleaching & Whitening

Natural & Herbal Remedies for Bleaching & Whitening

Discolored or yellowed teeth can ruin an otherwise nice smile. Many commercially prepared toothpastes are available that claim to whiten and bleach teeth, but not all are as effective as they claim to be. The cost of whitening your teeth at a dentist's office can be high. Natural and herbal remedies offer inexpensive and effective solutions to whiten your teeth and keep them looking great.

Strawberries and baking soda

Make a whitening paste with strawberries and baking soda. Mash one ripe strawberry to form some pulp and mix with 1/2 tsp. of baking soda. Spread the mixture on your teeth using a soft-bristle toothbrush. Let sit on your teeth for 5 minutes, then brush to remove the pulp. Dental floss may be in order to remove any stubborn strawberry seeds. Don't use too often --- once a week will get best results without damaging enamel.

Hydrogen peroxide and water

Mix equal parts of hydrogen peroxide and water. Rinse your mouth with the water, focusing on the teeth by keeping the mixture toward the front of your mouth. Spit out, and rinse with clear water. Repeat daily until you see results.

Herbs

Rub a section of walnut tree bark over your teeth to whiten them. Repeat daily for best results. Mix equal parts of dried, ground bay leaves and ground orange peels to form a paste. Apply to the teeth with a soft toothbrush. Leave on for 5 minutes; rinse off with clean water. Repeat daily to see results. But with either of these methods don't continue indefinitely because the same compounds that whiten your teeth can damage them if used too frequently.
