Home Remedy for a Total Body Detox

Detoxification is a method of cleansing the entire body that removes accumulated toxins, waste and debris from all tissues and cells of the body. Many doctors and holistic practitioners feel that diseases are caused by an overabundance of waste inside the body. The body is able to self-treat, but if the level of toxins and impurities are too high, the body has difficulty healing itself. A full-body detoxification at home helps in cleaning out the body and restoring health.

Go on a Short Fast

A fast is a way to stop eating so the body has more energy to repair itself. Eating and digesting food is a lengthy process that requires a great deal of energy. By not eating, the digestive system goes on a short rest, giving the body energy for self-cleaning. A fast of one to three days is doable for anyone without any serious health conditions. But it you have any concerns about even doing a one-day fast, seek your doctor's advice. During the fast you must still drink fluids.

Drink Lots of Water

Even if you're not fasting, the body still needs fluids on a daily basis. Drink at least 64 ounces of water each day for optimum health. But instead of water you can also drink fruit juices and vegetable juices. Stay away from unhealthy liquids like soda, alcohol and caffeine during the detoxification period. The healthy liquids offer a few benefits such as flushing out the body and helping to dilute any poisons or toxins. They also provide the water the body requires to perform its various functions. Fluids also help the digestive system by relieving constipation. The water makes stools watery and soft so they can be easily removed. Accumulated fecal matter is often attributed to many illnesses, says Dr. Robert Schulze, a medical doctor who is now an advocate of holistic healing. He also says that if these toxic materials are not removed regularly, the colon reabsorbs some of the toxins and wastes. Having regular bowel movements is vitally important in detoxifying the body.

Eat Healthier Foods

During the home detox try adding more fruits and vegetables to your diet to give the body the important nutrients it needs to self-clean and self-heal. You also should add more fiber to your diet during the detox. Fiber adds volume to the foods eaten so the stools are larger and softer and can be removed. During the detoxification, try to eliminate processed foods, junk foods, cigarettes, alcohol and recreational drugs. The purpose of a detox is to remove the harmful substances that are already in the body.

Exercise More

It is important during a home detox to exercise every day. Exercise burns fat and stimulates all the muscles in the body. Burning fat is important because most toxins are stored in fatty deposits. Any type of physical activity or movement is beneficial, including walking, tai chi, dancing or running.
