Natural Way to Cure ADHD

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, a developmental condition, is associated with symptoms such as hyperactivity, inattentiveness and impulsive behavior that have the potential for interfering with everyday life or that affect the quality of life. This disorder is often diagnosed during childhood, but both children and adults can have the condition. While this condition is traditionally treated with prescribed stimulants, there are natural remedies, both stimulating and relaxing, for dealing with the condition.

Gingko Biloba

Gingko biloba contains flavones glycosidces and gikgolide extracts that increase the amount of blood flow to the human brain and thus allow the improved delivery of oxygen to brain tissues. This herb is also noted for its ability to enhance glucose metabolism in the brain, and its ability to improve the level of amine neurotransmitters in the brain as well. Gingko biloba is an herb capable of improving memory processes, clarifying thinking processes and enhancing learning capabilities. This herb is not recommended for children younger than 12 years without a doctor's consent, but adults can consume a single 120-mg capsule every day to derive its benefits. This herb should be consumed for a period of 6 weeks or more, so the full effects can be noted.

Siberian Ginseng

Siberian ginseng is an adaptogenic herb that is useful in helping balance imbalances in the body. This herb contains eleutherosides that help in increasing one's stamina and in enhancing immunological functioning. This herb is also successful in helping to improve your concentration levels and your ability to remember things. The herb contains syriingin and syringaresinol diglucoside which improves your memory. You can also take this herb to increase your awareness and mental alertness. Siberian ginseng is not recommended for children, but adults can safely consume 500 to 3,000 mg daily via either capsule form or by drinking it as a tea.

Gotu Kola

Gotu kola contains triterpenoid glycosides such as brahmoside, madecassoside and asiaticoside that diminish the amounts of corticosterone produced by the adrenals when you are stressed. The latter glycosides help improve cognitive processes and to reduce complications associated with nervous disorders as well as vascular conditions affecting your brain. This herb also contains triterpenoids that diminish anxiety, improve mental functioning and minimize your startle response to stressful environmental stimuli. This herb is not recommended for children younger than 18 years without a doctor's approval, but it can be consumed as a tea three times daily by adults; a teaspoon of dry leaves can be added to a tea ball and steeped in hot water for ease of consumption.

Roman Chamomile

Roman chamomile is an herb that offers a sedating effect; it is useful for anxiety relief and for calming the nerves. This herb can be offered to children at one-third the dosage an adult would normally consume. Roman chamomile can be made into a tea and consumed three to four times a day; you will need to put three heaping tablespoons in a cup of hot steaming water to make the tea. To make the tea for a child, use a single teaspoon of the dried herb for tea, and offer the tea one time daily to derive its relaxing effects.

Valerian

Valerian root is an herb that increases the amount of gamma aminobutyric acid in your brain, which causes a calming effect and makes it an excellent herb for anxiety relief. This herb is also helpful for any sleep disturbances you might experience. A doctor should be consulted before offering valerian root to a child, but adults can consume 200-mg capsules three to four times daily to reduce anxiety issues and to calm the mind.
