Natural Cures for Anxiety Attack

Having an anxiety or panic attack is a scary experience; repeated attacks can be disruptive to your life. Many people seek conventional treatment for anxiety attacks, but there are natural cures that work equally as well. Once you know more about the natural cures for anxiety you can choose which is best for you.

Skullcap and Valerian

The herbs skullcap and valerian have been used to treat anxiety. Valerian is generally safe. It calms nerves, rapid pulse and muscle spasms. It also acts as a mild sedative. In some people valerian may cause hyperactivity, but that is rare. Skullcap strengthens the nervous system and relieves anxiety or tension. These two herbs can be used together or separately.

Lady Slipper and Linden Blossom

This mixture of the herbs lady slipper and linden blossom is used for anxiety, insomnia and irritability. It has a calming and soothing effect on a person having an anxiety attack. When used regularly it may increase a person's ability to handle stress and tension.

Aromatherapy

The scent of certain essential oils can have a calming effect. Lavender, geranium and bergamot, for example, can induce calm. You can mix those three oils together in a carrier oil such as sweet almond oil or peach kernel oil. You can also use them individually. Use an aromatherapy scent diffuser to take advantage of the calming effects of these essential oils.

Vitamins and Minerals

Take a multivitamin to help ensure that you're not deficient in any vitamins and minerals. An added B complex vitamin may be especially helpful. The B vitamins benefit the nervous system and when taken regularly may reduce the frequency of anxiety attacks. You may also want to increase your intake of the amino acid L-Tryptophan and the mineral magnesium. It's a good idea to check with your doctor to make sure any vitamins and supplements you are considering are appropriate for you.
