How to Prevent Bowel Cancer

Bowel cancer, or colorectal cancer, is a type of cancer that originates in the tissues of the rectum or large intestine (colon). It is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths in the Western world. There is no sole cause for bowel cancer. Almost all bowel cancers start out as benign (non-cancerous) polyps, which gradually develop into cancer. Bowel cancer is often associated with red meat, low-fiber and high-fat diets. However, by eating selective fruits and vegetables with anti-cancer properties, you can effectively prevent bowel cancer.

Instructions

    1

Consume plenty of citrus fruits. These types of fruit contain potent compounds, called monoterpenes, that prevent colon cancer by flushing carcinogens out of your body. Consume citrus fruits every day.

    2

Eat shiitake mushrooms. These fungi include powerful compounds, called lectin and lentinan, that build your immune system to prevent bowel cancer. These compounds can also target developing cancer cells and stop them from spreading.

    3

Consume plenty of broccoli. This vegetable contains a powerful phytochemical called sulforaphane, which prevents bowel cancer. Sulforaphane also stimulates specific enzymes in your body that can neutralize carcinogens and free radicals. Eat 2 cups of broccoli daily.

    4

Eat fresh, raw garlic. Garlic contains compounds called dialyl sultides that prevent bowel cancer by increasing and stimulating your immune cells to break down cancer-causing cells. Dialyl sultides also prevent carcinogens from invading normal cells and slow tumor development. Crush 1/2 cup of fresh, raw garlic and drink it with one glass of water.

    5

Consume plenty of red grapes. These include potent substances, called resveratrol bioflavonoids, which prevent the development of bowel cancer cells. Grapes also include the chemical ellagic acid, which blocks enzymes that cancer cells need to grow and spread. Eat 2 cups of red grapes every day.
