Home Remedy for Cramping

Many women experience painful cramps before and during their menstrual periods every month. The medical term for this cramping is dysmenorrhea. While these cramps are generally harmless and subside within a few days, they can be extremely comfortable. They are sharp aches that are located in the pelvic and abdominal areas and can be anything from mild to very intense. For those looking to reduce the pain associated with cramps, there are several different home remedies to try.

Minerals and Vitamins

    Minerals and vitamins can help with reducing cramping. Consuming foods that are rich in zinc, B-vitamins, magnesium and calcium can help decrease the uncomfortable symptoms that arise from cramping, such as bloating and feelings of sharp pain. Nutritional supplements with any of these minerals and vitamins can also help battle cramping.

Heating Pads

    Heating pads are a classic, convenient, quick and inexpensive home remedy for getting rid of cramping. If you place a heating pad either on your abdomen or your lower back, it can greatly help to reduce the discomfort and the pain of the cramps. For those that do not have a heating pad, it is very easy to make one. This can be done by getting a sock and filling it up with either uncooked rice or flaxseed, and then heating it up in the microwave oven for between one and two minutes.

Chamomile

    Chamomile is a name for various plants that are similar to daisies. Chamomile is a garden herb, and its flowers have long had various medicinal purposes. It comes in liquid, capsule and tea forms. You must get two teaspoons of dried out chamomile flowers, and then blend it into a cup of boiling water, and then allow it to steep for a minimum of five minutes. For taste reasons, you can add either sugar or honey (or both). This can soothe cramping discomfort. One way to prevent the cramps from happening in the first place is by preparing. This can be done by drinking chamomile tea a few days before your period is expected to start. Then during the actual period, it is advised to consume two cups daily.
