How to Treat Dysmenorrhea through Diet

A simple way to treat Dysmenorrhea is through diet. Below are the more effective changes that you should make to your diet if you currently suffer from Dysmenorrhea. These treatments work best when used a few days before, and during your menstruation.

Instructions

    1

Add more Calcium to your diet. Calcium helps to prevent menstrual cramps, which in many women with Dysmenorrhea are worsened due to a lack of adequate amounts of Calcium. Take 1,000 mg of Calcium daily throughout the month, and then during menstruation take 250 mg to 500 mg every 4-5 hours to help relieve pain and discomfort.

    2

Women with Dysmenorrhea should avoid drinking any alcohol. Alcohol depletes stores of some nutrients and also affects the metabolism of carbs. This can worsen muscle spasms and also lead to heavier menstrual flow, increased fluid retention and elevate the estrogen levels.

    3

Lower your fat intake. High fat diets can worsen Dysmenorrhea. Try to switch from full fat products to low fat products. Even small changes like switching from whole milk to skim milk can make a difference.
