How to Detoxify With Ionized Water

Ionized or alkaline water is gaining in popularity in the United States as people search for alternative remedies for their ailments. The water is made by running tap water through an electrolysis machine that turns it into alkaline water--which, according to IonLife director Ian Blair Hamilton, changes its electrochemical properties. Because the water loses its potency quickly after it is produced, it cannot be bottled and sold in stores. Instead, to detoxify by drinking this water, you have to buy a machine or know somebody who has one.

Instructions

    1

Buy a water ionizer machine. There are distributors throughout the United States, with the two most popular brands being Enagic (maker of Kangen water) and Jupiter. Enagic machines cost more and are related to home-based marketing, but their proponents claim that their machine is much better made than those of competitors. As of mid-2009, ionizers sell for between $500 and $5,000.

    2

Begin drinking the water. If you are not taking any prescription drugs, you can start at the lowest alkalinity level of 8.5. Start off at the lowest level of alkalinity, as drinking the water at higher levels can cause a detox headache.

    3

Begin drinking the 9.0 alkalinity water, usually about a week after you started drinking the 8.5 water or whenever you feel ready for it. Avoid soft drinks and energy drinks and try to drink at least half of your weight in ounces of water daily.

    4

Begin drinking the 9.5 water, usually about a week after you began drinking the 9.0 water. Continue to avoid soft drinks and energy drinks.

    5

Get a new filter once per year. Most water ionizers have five-year warranties, and some are expected to last 20 to 30 years, or more.
