Colon Cleansing With Raw Foods

A program using raw foods is a good way to clean the colon if you are experiencing constipation. Start the program slowly, adding a few raw fruits and vegetables at a time. Make sure to add enough water and fluids to the diet. A gradual approach works best as your body becomes adjusted to the colon-cleansing program. Do not eat starchy vegetables or fruits, but rather fruits and vegetables that are fibrous.

Choices

Raw fruit and honey are excellent colon cleaners. Apples contain pectin, which has a strong cleansing action. In the early stages of the program, start slowly with vegetables such as onions, leeks, and turnips. Celery is also a good choice, as it contains a lot of fiber.

Starting a raw-food cleansing program too quickly can put your body into shock, releasing toxins from your liver and kidneys too quickly. For the first couple of days, drink plenty of water and vegetable juice, but not too many solids. This will give your body's digestive process time to regroup, as well as enable the liver to clear out the toxins.

What to Avoid

After the first few days, you may increase your intake of food but avoid eating red meat, all processed foods, sugar and artificial sweeteners, salt and salty foods, drinking alcohol, processed meats such as hot dogs, soda, anything fried and caffeine.

Healthy Foods

Concentrate on whole foods. After a few days, you may also add whole grains and legumes, while still drinking a lot of water to constantly flush the accumulated toxins from your body. Pick whole foods that are high in fiber, and low in unhealthy saturated fats. Eliminate sugar and high fructose corn syrup from your diet.

By eating raw fruits and vegetables, you are providing your body with living enzymes that help the formation of healthy cells. Drink freshly processed fruit and vegetable juices to get vital vitamins and nutrients without straining your liver. You may also add fish to your diet two times a week for protein. Select dark green leafy vegetables for your salads, and choose dressings that have no fat or sweeteners.

Use whole, healthy, raw foods to cleanse your colon effectively. Ease into the process of cleansing your colon to avoid digestive upset. Contact your physician before you embark on any change in diet.
