Old Folk Remedy for Egg Whites

Egg whites aren't just for cooking; they are an old folk remedy. People have been using food and herbs to heal themselves since the beginning of time. Scientists have investigated these old folk remedies and have found that many of these foods and herbs have healing properties. These properties are then isolated, patented by prescription drug companies and used in prescription drugs to help people. For example, opiates come from the healing properties of poppies, a common wild flower. For emergencies it is always best to seek medical care if possible.

Burns

Using egg whites to treat burns is an old folk remedy. According to a University of Nebraska publication dated 1935, you can rub egg whites on a burn and it will help heal the burn without leaving a scar. Additionally, folkremediesforyou.com says that you can apply it as if it were a salve or if possible, soak the burned area using a bowl of egg whites.

Dysentery

Dysentery is another ailment that uses egg whites as an old folk remedy. According to the same University of Nebraska publication, you apply egg whites externally to the abdominal area when you have dysentery. It also suggests that babies with dysentery can be helped by feeding them egg whites, but don't do this without checking with your doctor.

Vomiting

Egg whites are an old folk remedy for vomiting, according to "Remedies and Lost Secrets of St. Bernard's Islenos," published by the Los Islenos Heritage and Cultural Society. The book says when nothing else will stop vomiting, mix one egg white in half a glass of water. Mix and consume.

Fever Reduction

Both the Americans and the Chinese have been using egg whites as an old folk remedy for fever reduction. The American version of this old folk remedy uses raw egg whites, while the Chinese version uses hardboiled egg whites. When the patient has a high fever, apply raw egg whites to the soles of the feet. When it dries it must be reapplied. For the Chinese version of this remedy, make a hardboiled egg and remove the yolk. Place the egg white and shell in a handkerchief. Twist the loose ends and create a ball. Use this ball to massage the patient from head to toe. Both of these remedies are supposed to bring the fever down quickly.
