Effective Home Remedy to Remove Acne Scars

Acne scars are marks left on the skin after the acne has dried. Acne is caused by overactive sebaceous glands and by hormones known as androgens as well as surplus output of sebum, which can lead to clogged pores. Poor hygiene, heredity and excessive use of cosmetics can also lead to acne. Instead of resorting to drastic measures to reduce acne scarring, try utilizing home remedies.

Diet

Diet is an important consideration when it comes to treating acne and reducing acne scarring. It is important to prevent the formation of acne in the first place, before scarring can occur. Modify the diet to include high amounts of protein, which can help build and repair the skin surface. Fresh fruits, leafy green vegetables and fibrous vegetables are critically important to maintaining healthy skin. Foods rich in vitamin A are healing to the skin and include, tomatoes, carrots, spinach and yams.

Water

Consume plenty of water daily to nourish your skin. Water keeps the skin hydrated and helps flush out impurities from the body. Try to drink eight, 8-oz. glasses of water per day.

Proper Hygiene

Proper hygiene is imperative if you want to prevent and heal acne. Wash your face with an antibacterial soap or a cleanser that contains salicylic acid twice a day. Salicylic acid is a good exfoliant and helps to clear the skin of the dead top layer, reducing scarring.

Home Remedies

Apply lime juice directly to the acne scarring to clear it up and fade it away. Saturate a cotton ball with lime juice and massage gently over your face once a day. The citric acid in the lime juice helps remove dead skin cells, while promoting the growth of new skin cells.

Make a mask out of tomato slices and apply over your face once a day. Tomatoes have a lot of vitamin A, which helps limit the production of sebum which leads to acne. Leave the tomato slices on for 15 minutes at a time, then rinse with cool water. Do this once a day.

Rub a few ice cubes over your face for 10 to 15 minutes per day. This will help to tighten pores and reduce the appearance of acne scarring.

Puree 1/4 cup of pineapple and massage the mixture over your acne scars. The vitamin C in pineapple has a mild exfoliating effect, leaving the skin brightened and with less noticeable scarring.

If the above home remedies don't yield the results you desire, consult a dermatologist for more conventional treatment options.
