Bee Propolis & Infections

Bee Propolis & Infections

Bees can help heal infections. Bee propolis is a substance bees collect from tree buds as they buzz along collecting pollen. This propolis contains a high level of antioxidants that encourage healing.

Components

Bee propolis is a mixture of many things. The content of propolis differs from place to place because of ecological variation, but propolis can be made up of waxes, resins, essential oils and pollen in small doses.

Medical Benefits

The initial studies on propolis have shown it can be used for medicinal purposes as a topical agent to ward against bacteria and viruses that invade through open wounds. Also, as it is high in antioxidants, when taken orally, it can fight against infection.

Dental Benefits

Propolis can be used in dental medicine as an anti-plaque agent. When applied to the teeth, the propolis protects against the bacteria that attack and cause disease. There are several manufacturers that make and market propolis gum.

Other Uses

Bees have perfected the use of propolis in their hives as a form of insulation against the elements, reduce vibration, prevent infections and diseases from entering the hive, and as a resin to strengthen the hive.

Warning

Bee propolis should be used sparingly because continued use can cause a vulnerability to allergies.
