How to Use Primrose Oil for Eczema

How to Use Primrose Oil for Eczema

Evening primrose oil is extracted from the evening primrose plant's flowers. Anecdotal evidence suggests that the oil may soothe many conditions, including the symptoms of eczema.

Instructions

Use Primrose Oil for Eczema and Eczema Symtoms

    1

Buy primrose oil. Generally, it is sold in capsules and can be obtained at natural healthcare stores or markets. Scan the ingredients for the essential components which make primrose oil an effective treatment. It should contain an omega-6 essential fatty acid, gamma-linolenic acid (GLA).

    2

Opt for primrose oil from North America or European countries. Its native to these climates and best harvested there in a more natural environment.

    3

Take between 4 and 8 grams daily by mouth. This dosage is appropriate for adults with eczema. Children should take a smaller dosage.

    4

Treat eczema that results from skin allergies. Some eczema is found to be the result of an allergic reaction and primrose oil can be used to treat both.

    5

Stop itching. Eczema causes intense bouts of itching and studies show that primrose oil can be an effective treatment for the itching, even if rednesss and scaling are unaffected.

Make an Informed Decision About the Use of Primrose Oil

    6

Research primrose oil before making a purchase. Studies are inconsistent and scarce, so you may want to talk to your doctor or fellow eczema sufferers before using it.

    7

Be cautious. Understand that primrose oil is not researched, regulated or evaluated by the FDA (Food & Drug Administration). This means you are dealing with a product that may not work and whose safety hasn't been established.

    8

Watch out for false claims on packaging. Manufacturers may claim to have conducted efficacy studies, but then contradict themselves with simultaneous disclaimers.

    9

Consider that it may not treat as many conditions as manufacturers would like you to think. In fact, some conditions can be aggravated, such as headaches and digestive issues.
