How to Use Lavender to Treat Anxiety

How to Use Lavender to Treat Anxiety

Lavender is often used in aromatherapy because the scent is calming and relaxing. If you are looking for a natural way to treat anxiety, give lavender a try. There are several methods of delivery from which to choose. Create your own lavender spa treatments at home or book an appointment with a professional.

Instructions

Calm Yourself With Lavender Vapor

    1

Pour 2 to 3 cups of boiling water into a large bowl or basin.

    2

Add lavender essential oil to the boiling water. Use 2 to 4 drops for every 3 cups of water.

    3

Put a large towel over your head to keep the steam concentrated around your face.

    4

Bend over the basin and inhale. The lavender vapors induce calmness and sometimes a sleepy feeling. Your body will start to relax and you may feel less anxiety.

Reduce Your Anxiety With a Lavender Scented Bath

    5

Prepare your bathroom for a relaxing soak while you draw a bath. Dim the lights and put on some soft music.

    6

Add lavender into your bath water. Use 6 drops of essential oil or up to 1/2 cup of dried lavender flowers.

    7

Fold a towel behind your head to use as a pillow as you relax in the tub. Close your eyes and let the calming scent swirl around you.

Reduce Anxiety With a Lavender Massage

    8

Create massage oil with lavender essential oil and a carrier oil. Try sweet almond, pecan or grapeseed oils as a carrier oil.

    9

Apply the lavender massage oil to your shoulders and rub into your skin. Ask someone to do the same for your back.

    10

Allow yourself to relax as you are being massaged. Imagine the tension and anxiety leaving your body. Enjoy the delicate scent of lavender.
