Garlic is used to treat a vast array of ailments such as menstrual pain, cold, flu, internal parasites, coughs, sore throats and hypertension. With few known side effects aside from bad breath, garlic continues to merit serious scientific study in labs and universities around the world.

    Take 1 clove of garlic and crush it until it is very fine. Add the crushed garlic to a glass of warm milk. It works for cramps caused by a variety of factors, not just menstruation.

    Drink garlic juice. It can be difficult to come by, but drinking fresh garlic juice is one of the most effective things you can do to promote health and vitality in your life.

    Start to use garlic at the point in your cycle when you know that menstrual pain is 2 to 3 days away. You can reduce the severity and duration of pain by getting a head start. Eat a clove of garlic per day for those 2 to 3 days.

    Prepare a garlic tea if you are lactose intolerant and cannot drink milk. The principle is the same. Mince a garlic clove and add it to boiling water. Let it sit for several minutes, and then drink. You can strain the garlic out.

    Try garlic oil to treat menstrual pain. Garlic oil is made by taking 6 to 10 ounces of fresh garlic, peeling it, mincing and covering it with olive oil. Seal it tightly in a jar and allow it to sit for a few days, giving it a vigorous shake every so often. Take a spoonful every 2 hours.

    Buy garlic supplement capsules at your grocery store if you don't like garlic or you want to avoid garlic breath. They are not quite as helpful for treating menstrual pain or other disorders as whole garlic, but they can be of some use.
