How to Use Lavender to Treat Upset Stomach

How to Use Lavender to Treat Upset Stomach

Herbal remedies are often suggested as a natural way to treat an upset stomach and other digestive ailments. Lavender has soothing properties that can calm your stomach and your entire body. Making lavender tea and putting lavender into your bath water are two ways to reduce the pain of cramps and put an end to indigestion.

Instructions

Soothe Your Upset Stomach With Lavender Tea

    1

Use a teakettle or a small pot to boil water. One cup of water for each mug-sized serving of tea is sufficient.

    2

Put 1 tsp. of dried lavender flowers into a tea strainer for each cup of water. You could add chamomile or lemon verbena for a slightly different flavor. Lavender flowers and other herbal plants are available at many natural and health food stores.

    3

Brew your lavender tea in a teapot for 5 to 10 minutes, depending on how strong you like it. Don't let it brew too long or it will be bitter.

    4

Pour the tea into a mug and add sugar, milk or honey if needed. Sip slowly, allowing your upset stomach to settle.

    5

Nibble on some light crackers or toast as you drink your tea. The combination of the lavender and a small amount of food in your stomach can relieve discomfort due to indigestion, nausea or even hunger.

Calm Your Upset Stomach With a Lavender Bath

    6

Add 1/4 to 1/2 cup of dried lavender flowers to a warm bath. Adjust the amount of flowers you use to control the strength of scent.

    7

Allow the plant to soften and infuse in the water for a few minutes.

    8

Get into the bathtub and relax. The lavender will release its delicate scent as it steeps. Its calming properties can soothe an upset stomach.
