While most people are aware that the human body is composed by 75 percent water, not everyone is aware that blood, tissues and cells are composed by a salty water solution very similar to seawater. Sea salt has many physiological benefits, and has been used throughout history for optimum health, explains doctor Erin Elster, an upper cervical specialist in Boulder, Colorado. Whether you are taking sea salt water internally or bathing in it, sea-salt water has proved to be effective thanks to its unrefined, natural mineral contents.

Using Sea-salt Water for Bathing
- 1
Fill up your bath tub with lukewarm water. To obtain maximum benefits, the temperature of the water should be about two degrees warmer than the temperature of your body, recommends SaltWorks, a company producing premium gourmet sea salts and bath salts.
2Add 2 lbs. of dead Sea salt to the lukewarm bath. This is the ideal amount of salt that promotes a change in the skin's chemistry, causing it to help eliminate toxins and promote the regeneration of healthy new skin cells.
3Immerse yourself in the bath tub. Bathing in dead seasalt water provides a deeply relaxing experience and provides optimal minerals for the skin. Sea salt water baths have also proven helpful for alleviating skin diseases, such as psoriasis, or for simply relieving muscle tension.
Using Sea-Salt Water as a Colon Cleanser
- 4
Mix 2 tsp. sea-salt laxative with 2 qts. warm water to obtain a colon cleansing solution, recommends the Colon Cleansing and Constipation Research Center. To make the drink more palatable, you can add lemon juice to the solution.
5Drink the laxative solution. If taken on an empty stomach, the laxative will likely cause muscle contractions that may promote a bowel movement. Take the laxative at home, when you don't have to run errands for a while.
6Wait for the laxative to start taking effect. Generally, you should expect a bowel movement within an hour or two after drinking the solution. Have ready access to a bathroom.
