How to Make At-Home Neti Pots

How to Make At-Home Neti Pots

Neti pots are the oldest form of nasal irrigation. They were first developed in ancient India--the word "neti" actually coming from Sanskrit, the language of ancient India. It was once believed that clear nasal passages were linked to clear thinking and higher levels of meditation. Neti pots filled with a saline solution are still in use today as a natural way to clear and clean the sinus cavities. Although there are several brands that can be purchased in stores and online, you can also easily make one at home.

Instructions

    1

Starting from the pointed end of the watering can's spout, find the place where the circumference of the spout would fit comfortably into the nostril and mark the place with a marker.

    2

Carefully using the hacksaw, saw through the spout at the place marked.

    3

Using the knife or razor blade, make a beveled edge on the cut end of the spout.

    4

Sand all sharp or rough areas from the beveled edge you made.

    5

Mix the water, baking soda, and salt together and pour into your neti pot. It is now ready for use.
