Sinus headache pain is different from the normal headaches. The symptoms of a sinus headache may include: facial pain, tenderness in the facial area, pressure on one side of the face, and pain in the eyes and cheekbones. Sinus headaches are normally caused by inflammation of the sinuses. This happens with the mucous from the sinuses does not drain, providing a favorable environment for bacteria to live and multiply.
Salt
Salt can be used to flush the sinuses. Flushing the sinuses with a solution made of salt and warm water will help to flush out mucus and shrink nasal tissues.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar can be used to treat sinus headaches. Add 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar to a bowl of steaming water. Inhaling the steam will help to loosen the congestion in the sinuses, which will reduce sinus pressure and headache.
Thyme
Thyme has antiseptic properties. Thyme can be used to make a tea or it can be boiled and the steam inhaled. Inhaling the steam of the thyme or drinking the thyme brew will reduce inflammation of the sinuses.
Eucalyptus Oil
Eucalyptus oil has expectorant and antibacterial properties. When inhaled, the steam from the eucalyptus oil can eliminate inflammation.
Peppermint
Peppermint is considered to be one of the oldest home remedies for treating sinus headaches. Tip 2 drops of peppermint into a bowl of steaming water, and inhale the steam. The decongestant properties found in peppermint will clear the sinus cavity.
