Creative Uses for Yogurt

Creative Uses for Yogurt

Yogurt contains "good" bacteria called probiotics. Probiotics aid digestion and immune function. Yogurt also contains animal proteins, calcium, potassium, magnesium and vitamins B-2 and B-12. While it is proven that eating yogurt promotes general health and well being, there are many unexpected topical uses for yogurt.

Acne

Use yogurt to combat acne. Rub 1 tsp. of plain yogurt onto a freshly-washed and dried face as if applying lotion. Allow for the yogurt to completely absorb into your skin. With continual use, your skin will feel tighter and blemishes should disappear.

Yeast Infection

Treat a yeast infection with yogurt instead of costly over-the-counter medicine. Coat a tampon with plain, unpasteurized, unsweetened yogurt before insertion. Keep the tampon in for a couple of hours and repeat the process. Use the yogurt dipped tampons for up to five days, or until symptoms disappear. Douching regularly with a mixture of yogurt and water also can help combat a yeast infection.

Dandruff

Cure dandruff build-up with yogurt. Wash your hair and apply one cup of plain yogurt to your scalp. Leave the yogurt to soak into your scalp for 15 minutes and then rinse thoroughly. Repeat the process over several days and your dandruff should disappear.

Toenail Fungus

Fight toenail fungus with yogurt. Rub plain yogurt onto an infected toenail. Let the yogurt soak into the nail overnight. Repeat the yogurt application until the fungus is gone.

Sunburn Treatment

Relieve painful sunburns by applying 1/2 cup of plain yogurt directly onto the burned area. Mix aloe vera into the yogurt to aid pain relief.
