Natural Cures for Stomach Aches

An upset stomach can be very uncomfortable and disruptive to your daily life. Whether you are dealing with nausea, vomiting, acid indigestion, gas or diarrhea, an upset stomach can be one of the most unpleasant things to deal with. Fortunately, there are many natural cures for upset stomach that work quite well. Knowing which natural cures work best will help you decide which is best suited for your problem.

Nausea

One of the most commonly used herbs for nausea is ginger. Ginger helps soothe and protect the lining of the stomach and digestive tract. Ginger ale or ginger tea are commonly used to cure nausea. When purchasing ginger ale for medicinal purposes, make sure the brand of soda uses actual ginger by checking the ingredient label. Peppermint is also known to calm or relax the stomach, and it eases spasms of the digestive tract. It can be used for nausea in two ways: when used as an aromatherapy, or by drinking a cup of peppermint tea.

Vomiting

One natural cure for vomiting is a lesser known herb called agrimony. Drinking agrimony tea while you are sick may help flush the body of parasites and toxins while also boosting the immune system. You can also drink peppermint tea to relieve vomiting. Peppermint tea is effective for vomiting for the same reason it is used to treat nausea--because it stops spasms of the digestive tract and relaxes the stomach. Cardamom can also help vomiting because it stops spasms and strengthens a weakened digestive tract. You can add a few pinches of the spice to applesauce or yogurt or make a warm cup of cardamom tea.

Acid Indigestion

Caraway oil is great for people who have acid indigestion. In fact, it has been used to cure acid indigestion since ancient Egypt. It works because it helps reduce intestinal gas and improve digestion. Cinnamon is widely used for acid indigestion because it helps move food through the digestive tract preventing bloating, heartburn, gas and nausea. Sweet almond oil or almonds are another quick fix for heartburn. In many cases they provide instant relief of heartburn because they help reduce stomach acid.

Gas

Fennel tea is one of the best remedies you can take to relieve gas. Fennel helps relive bloating and spasms and soothes the digestive tract. Many people also use the herb angelica for gas. It works to relieve spasms of the bowel and stomach. Peppermint is also used to treat gas. It is known for its ability to improve digestion and it also calms the digestive tract and stops spasms.

Diarrhea

Goldenseal is used for diarrhea because it has natural antiseptic and antibacterial properties. Oregon grape root also works well for diarrhea. It, too, is a great antiseptic and antibacterial, but it also helps slow bowel movements. Raspberry leaf tea is also used for diarrhea because it helps calm the digestive tract. Psyllium seed can also be used to help absorb water to bulk up bowel movements.
