Head lice is commonly found in school-aged children who are more prone to sharing items that can lead to the spread of lice. Chemical remedies are available to get rid of the lice. However, excessive exposure to these chemicals can be harmful to children and sometimes the chemicals are not effective. When conventional treatments are ineffective, you can use alternative treatment options instead. Baby oil can be used to help get rid of lice.
Instructions
Baby Oil Alone
- 1
Rub the baby oil generously into dry hair. Use enough baby oil to coat all of the hair thoroughly. Leave it in the hair for no longer than an hour.
2Rinse the hair with water.
3Shampoo the hair using the dish soap to remove the oil from the hair.
4Place four drops of tea tree oil into an application of regular shampoo. Wash your hair normally with the shampoo. Use the tea tree oil in your shampoo to prevent reinfestation.
Baby Oil and Petroleum Jelly
- 5
Coat dry hair and scalp with petroleum jelly, about 2 oz., to smother the lice and eggs.
6Cover hair with a shower cap and allow to sit for two hours.
7Remove shower cap.
8Rub baby oil into the hair and scalp thoroughly.
9Squeeze the hair to remove as much of the baby oil as possible.
10Wash the hair with dish soap to remove as much of the oil and grease as possible. Use hot water and allow dish soap to sit for a few minutes before rinsing.
11Repeat up to three times if necessary.
