How to Make Comfrey Infused Oil

How to Make Comfrey Infused Oil

Comfrey-infused oil is used to give relaxing massages because of its ability to help strengthen the body's tissues while making muscles more flexible so they are less apt to become stiff. The oil also has anti-inflammatory properties that help relieve aches and pains caused by sport injuries and broken bones. Many people also use comfrey oil to clean wounds and sores because of its antibacterial and antiseptic properties. New mothers use the oil to help massage the breast area after breastfeeding to prevent soreness. If you want to enjoy the healing properties of comfrey-infused oil, you can make it easily at home.

Instructions

    1

Pour the comfrey leaves, 2 tbsp. olive oil and lavender oil into one of the mason jars and cover with a lid.

    2

Shake the ingredients together until you get an oily mixture with dried comfrey leaves throughout.

    3

Place the jar in a safe spot inside your home that is warm and dark; this will help the comfrey leaves to absorb the olive oil. Leave mixture inside the jar for up to three days to make the comfrey-infused oil. Each day add 2 more tbsp. olive oil to the jar so the comfrey leaves will constantly be absorbing as much of the oil as possible. After adding the oil, shake the jar to mix the ingredients up again.

    4

Check the mixture on day three to see if the comfrey leaves have fully absorbed the olive oil. If they haven't, allow the mixture to sit overnight again.

    5

Pour the comfrey-oil mixture into the center of the cheesecloth and pick the ends up like you are forming a sack. Twist the ends in your hand so all the comfrey leaves stay in the center.

    6

Squeeze the sack gently with your hands over the second mason jar and allow the comfrey-infused oil to pour into it. Your hands will become oily but you can wash them with warm soapy water afterward. After you have squeezed all the oil out of the sack you will have a homemade comfrey-infused oil that smells like comfrey and lavender.

    7

Store the comfrey-infused oil in the sealed mason jar for up to a month and use whenever needed for massages, relieving aches and pains and cleansing wounds and sores.
