How to Tincture Green Walnut Hulls

Making black walnut tincture is a great use for all of those walnuts that fall from your black walnut tree in autumn. Black walnut tincture is made from the green hulls (the external coverings) of black walnuts. Black walnut tincture is promoted as having anti-viral applications. It is also used to eliminate parasites in the digestive track, to treat skin conditions such as acne, eczema and ringworm and to treat throat problems such as tonsillitis, according to cancer.org. With a few basic ingredients, black walnut tincture can be easily made on your own.

Instructions

    1

Collect only healthy, green, undamaged hulls. It is okay that the walnuts are still inside.

    2

Wash the hulls with cold, distilled water. Use a plastic scrub brush to remove any stuck-on dirt.

    3

Place the hulls in a glass container or pot that has a lid.

    4

Fill the container with enough vodka that all of the hulls are covered.

    5

Sprinkle in one teaspoon of vitamin C powder.

    6

Place the lid on the container. Any metal lids or lids with metal edging should be lined with plastic wrap.

    7

Let the hulls soak for three days.

    8

    Remove the walnuts.

    9

Sprinkle in one more teaspoon of vitamin C powder.

    10

Use a funnel to divide the tincture into small bottles.

    11

Store the tincture bottles in the freezer.
