Alternative Remedies for MRSA

Methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a type of staph infection that is resistant to almost any kind of antibiotic. There are many people who are carriers and don't even know they have the infection, because they never show any symptoms. Some MRSA infections are as simple as having pimples, while others are very painful and can cause a variety of serious health conditions. Those with weakened immune systems are at very high risk of complications. There are a number of remedies for MRSA to reduce the effects and boost the immune system.

Colloidal Silver

Take colloidal silver to fight bacteria. Colloidal silver kills MRSA bacteria in laboratory tests and also prevents other strains from developing. This remedy is one of the oldest in the world that works on many different bacteria in humans and animals. It kills 650 different organisms compared to the average antibiotic that kills only six, according to Regenerative Nutrition's website.

Swallow 1 Tbsp. of colloidal silver three times a day for three days. After three days, take 1 Tbsp. of colloidal silver twice per day for three days. Follow this up with one final round of 1 Tbsp. per day for three days. Using this treatment after possible exposure to infection will provide an adequate treatment for MRSA.

Melaleuca

Visit your local health food store to purchase Melaleuca Oil. More commonly known as tea tree oil, it has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory agents and is used in many different health products. Studies published in the Journal of Hospital Infection declared tea tree oil more effective than many other solutions in clearing MRSA skin sores.

Use a Malaleuca body wash each day to help fight the spread of the bacteria associated with MRSA. Combine this with a treatment of Malaleuca oil ointment, applied every two hours to the inside of the nostrils to prevent colonization of the MRSA bacteria.

Essential Oils

Incorporate essential oils as a supplement to other treatments for MRSA. Essential oils are extracted from fruits, vegetables, herbs and plants all over the world. They are used as a treatment for just about anything, including MRSA.

Obtain the right essential oil for fighting MRSA. Geranium seems to be the essential oil most successful at eliminating MRSA. In a television special aired on the BBC in 2004, Dr. Peter Warn of the University of Manchester (UK) made the claim that essential oils of geranium completely prevented MRSA in laboratory tests.

Rub a small amount of geranium oil on the wrist. Although some essential oils are too potent to use undiluted, geranium oil is relatively mild and doesn't usually irritate the skin. Using the oil has the benefit of a pleasant, fragrant aroma. Put a few drops on an aromatherapy diffuser as a respiratory treatment for MRSA.
