Kidney Cleansing Drinks

Kidney Cleansing Drinks

A good cleanse is designed to reduce the numbers of toxins in internal organs, such as the kidneys. Since the kidneys filter waste from your body, keeping them in optimal shape is important. One way to do this is to consume drinks that have cleansing properties.

Water

Water is one of the best drinks available for your body. Consuming water and exercising on a regular basis has a natural cleansing effect. According to the Mayo Clinic, drinking water on a regular basis can even help the body flush kidney stones.

Tea

According to studies published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, a caffeine-free green tea has the same hydrating and flushing capabilities as water. Additionally, teas made from herbs that have diuretic and herbal medicinal properties for the urinary tract, such as dandelion, can promote cleansing of the kidneys by flushing them. Dandelion also contains potassium, which helps to dissolve crystals that form kidney stones.

Apple Juice

Apples contain pectin, which is an excellent substance for cleaning out both the colon and urinary tract. Pectin can help target heavy metals such as aluminum, lead and mercury in the body and help to flush them out. Apple juice is high in antioxidant vitamins such as the B vitamins and flavanoids. Unfiltered apple juice still retains pulp, which can help cleanse the colon and insure that those toxins don't end up in the kidneys as well.

Celery and Parsley Broth

A broth made with celery and parsley is rich in a substance called apiol. Apiol is known for its antiseptic properties in the kidneys. Apiol has been isolated and used in traditional medicine to treat kidney stones. Both parsley and celery have diuretic properties, which make them ideal for flushing the kidneys as well.

Citrus

Citrus includes juices made of oranges, limes, grapefruits and lemons. All three juices are high in acid content, which dissolves crystals that eventually form stones in the kidneys. Citrus fruits are also antiseptic and antimicrobial in the body. Lemons, limes and grapefruit contain limonoids, phytonutrients that fights toxic compounds including carcinogens. Limonoids also have the same antioxidants found in green tea. Grapefruits contain licopene, the same antioxidant that gives tomatoes their color and flavor.
