How to Breath in a Paper Bag

How to Breath in a Paper Bag

Paper bag re-breathing increases the amount of carbon dioxide circulating in the blood stream. Doctors once prescribed this technique as a treatment for hyperventilation, a condition in which the bloodstream carries too much oxygen. The carbon dioxide with this treatment would balance out the extra amount of oxygn in the bloodstream. The WebMD "Medscape" website recommends against this procedure because patients suffering from heart attacks and other conditions have died while re-breathing into a paper bag under the belief that they were hyperventilating. The Mayo Clinic website still recommends paper bag re-breathing as a home remedy for treating the hiccups.

Instructions

    1

Empty and unfold a paper bag. Grip it with your hand near the opening to narrow it into a small passage.

    2

Place the paper bag opening against your face and over your nose and mouth so that the bag opening covers your nose and mouth and forms a seal with your face.

    3

Breath out into the bag in a slow, controlled exhalation.

    4

Breath the air in the bag back into your lungs in a slow, controlled inhalation.

    5

Repeat Steps 3 and 4 ten times.

    6

Remove the bag from your face. Continue breathing without the bag to see if the hiccups have stopped.

    7

Repeat Steps 2 to 6 if the hiccups persist or return.

How to Use Tourmaline Stones

How to Use Tourmaline Stones

Tourmaline is a hard mineral that grows inside rocks found around the world in places such as Sri Lanka, Africa and Brazil. Tourmaline naturally forms in several different colors such as black, green, red, blue and pink and it is often partially transparent. Tourmaline has been used as far back as ancient Egyptian times, when it was called "gemstone of the rainbow" due to the wide variety of available colors. Tourmaline is believed to have mental, spiritual and physical healing qualities. Purchase tourmaline online or through local gem dealers as well as jewelers.

Instructions

    1

Wear black tourmaline jewelry around your neck, wrists or ankles or directly on any areas of the body experiencing an ailment to correct the energy of your cells.

    2

Use brown tourmaline, also known as champagne and dravite, to calm and soothe yourself. It is also believed that brown tourmaline provides psychic protection.

    3

Meditate while holding blue tourmaline to induce psychic awareness and emotional purification. Blue tourmaline is associated with higher self-awareness and intuition.

    6

Carry green tourmaline or wear it as jewelry to attract creativity, compassion and abundance in your life. For healers, this gem is thought to be particularly helpful when used in conjunction with healing herbs.

    7

Increase your intelligence with yellow tourmaline, known as golden or tsilaisite. The bright yellow color is a product of the traces of manganese found in it.

How to Cure Human Parasites With Rice Vinegar

How to Cure Human Parasites With Rice Vinegar

Vinegar in all forms is a great home remedy for various afflictions, including human parasites. Human parasites enter the body through air, food, water, insect bites and contact with other people. At some point nearly everyone is affected by them. Rice vinegar is highly acidic; taking some daily increases the acidity in your intestines, making it difficult for parasites to survive.

Instructions

    1

Purchase rice vinegar from your local store. There are several different types of rice vinegar: white rice, red rice and black rice. All will work, but vinegars with higher acidity levels treat human parasites more quickly. Of the three, white-rice vinegar is the least acidic.

    2

Combine two tablespoons of rice vinegar with an 8 oz. glass of water.

    3

Mix the vinegar in the water thoroughly. Depending on your preference, you may want to add more or less vinegar. Some people add a teaspoon of sugar.

    4

Drink a complete glass at least once a day to prevent parasites. If you think you already have parasites, drink two to four glasses a day.

Properties of Jasmine Tea

Properties of Jasmine Tea

Jasmine tea is not a type of tea in its own right. Instead, it is green tea that has had jasmine flowers added in to affect the aroma and taste of the tea. An experiment regarding cancer demonstrated that jasmine tea and sancha tea combined was more effective than either tea alone in preventing angiogenesis.

Effects on Mood

One of jasmine tea's more common uses is in helping the mood. Jasmine tea has been shown to lower stress and cause a calm state. This is done primarily through the odor of the tea. It has also been shown to lower heart rate creating a physical as well as a mental calm. Dr. Ray Sahelian describes the mood caused by jasmine tea as "calm and vigorous." The smell of jasmine tea was only effective in moderately potent tea, not in weaker tea.

As an Antioxidant

Antioxidants are prevalent in jasmine tea. They can boost the immune system, preventing the heavier effects of some illnesses. They can also slow the effects of aging. Antioxidants work by countering the effect that free radicals have on the body. These free radicals come from oxygen as well as other chemicals found in cigarette smoke and other toxins. Taking antioxidants from tea can be more beneficial than from supplements as high doses can cause the opposite effect and encourage oxidation.

Heart Disease

Jasmine tea may be effective in preventing heart disease. Part of this may be a result of the antioxidants within the tea. Jasmine tea can have an effect on heart disease by lowering cholesterol. In the process, the tea can prevent the hardening of arteries. One study that took place in the Netherlands showed that regular intake of green tea, which makes up most of jasmine tea, could help prevent atherosclerosis.

Effects on Cancer

Jasmine teas effects on cancer may also have a lot to do with the antioxidants it contains. According to the "Gale Encyclopedia of Alternative Medicine," jasmine tea may help prevent oral cancer, prostate cancer and other cancers. As well as preventing cancer, jasmine tea may slow the growth of preexisting cancerous cells and tumors. Injections tested on animals have shown that it may be effective in reducing the size of existing tumors as well.

Talcum Powder Alternatives

Talcum Powder Alternatives

Talcum powder keeps the skin dry by absorbing moisture such as sweat, urine and other bodily fluids. People use it on baby bottoms to prevent rashes and irritation caused by diapers. Adults also sprinkle their thighs, underarms and other parts of their bodies to prevent chafing and rashes. However, talcum powder contains a potentially dangerous mineral, and alternative powders should be used.

Talc

Talc, a purified mineral, is the main ingredient in many talcum powders, baby powders and medicated powders as well as garden pesticides, flea powders and tick powders. Though talc rocks undergo crushing, drying and milling, it still contains tiny fibers that closely resemble those found in carcinogen asbestos. When a person or baby accidentally or purposely inhales or swallows products that contain talc, such as talcum powder, he risks talcum powder poisoning.

Symptoms

Symptoms of talcum powder poisoning usually appear after long-term inhalation of talc dust. According to the Mayo Clinic, those who suffer from poisoning most often display breathing problems such as chest pain, coughing, trouble breathing, rapid and shallow breathing and even lung failure. Other symptoms include decreased urination, eye irritation, jaundice, throat irritation, diarrhea and vomiting. Talcum powder may also affect the heart, causing convulsions and low blood pressure. If it reaches the nervous system, a person may experience fever, drowsiness, lethargy, twitching of the limbs and facial muscles, and even coma. The symptom of talcum powder poisoning may also manifest on the skin in blisters, rash, yellow skin and blue skin.

Long-term Effects

The prognosis of talcum powder poisoning depends on how much poison was swallowed and how quickly the person received treatment. However, workers who inhale talcum powder over extended periods of time have developed serious lung damage and cancer. There may also be a link between the use of talcum powder in the genital area and ovarian cancer, though more research is needed. Talcum powder poisoning may even lead to death.

Alternatives

Reduce the risk of talcum powder poisoning by using baby powders and other powders that contain main ingredients other than talc. Look for powders that contain corn starch or rice powder. Other non-toxic powders that absorb moisture and keep the skin dry include baking soda, corn flour and oat flour, which can be found at grocery stores. Online retailers and herb shops often sell powdered lavender buds, rose petals and chamomile flowers which can also be used in place of talcum powder.
